Vivo Installation

Immersive interactive installation for Vivo

Take Me There

Take Me There (TMT) was part of a series of eight interactive installations commissioned by VIVO for their concept store in Shekou, Shenzen. Take Me There’s core experience was a geodesic dome that users would enter and interact with via a mounted touch screen in the centre. This screen controlled the lighting inside the dome which was based on various 360 (equirectangular) videos the user could choose and manipulate.

I was tasked with creating the link between bespoke hardware and a novel user interface. I researched and picked a suite of tools to achieve a link between the interface and hardware.

The user interface was a website that was locked into a kiosk mode, and users inputs were captured live and sent into a projector mapping software to display the visuals in the dome. This translation between the users video input and the LED dome was done in a software called MadMapper where the input was resampled into DMX outputs, which in turn, controlled the colors of LEDs in the dome. Finally, I created an Automator app so that the installation operator could start and stop the installation without understanding the startup process. The projection mapping research and DMX linking was done in collaboration with Liam Bray.

This installation currently resides at the VIVO concept store in Shekou, Shenzen
